Back in 2019, Tangram, with a license from Mattel, launched the Barbie Throwback Truck. Celebrating 60 years of Barbie, the truck travels across the United States, where it stops at malls to sell exclusive merchandise, like bags, mugs and clothing.
The experience is what you make it. Much of the experience is, let’s face it, waiting in line. Folks line up very early to get first dibs on the exclusive merch, and in this case, the early bird usually gets the worm. Those who choose to wait for the line to go down before heading over to the truck usually have less of a selection. That being said, the trucks generally hit the same spots every year or so, so what you don’t get on your first trip, you might get on your second. Waiting aside, the truck makes a cool photo opportunity and the merchandise is usually pretty neat.
Since its initial launch, the truck has seen a few different rebranding’s. In 2021, the truck was re-launched as the Malibu Tour, with new products inspired by Malibu Barbie. The Malibu Tour ran through 2023, when it was rebranded into the Dreamhouse Living tour, which featured some fun home goods, as well as the usual bags and mugs. The Dreamhouse throw blanket from that line is one of the softest I’ve felt— I love it! And now, launching February 8th, 2025, it’s time to get your running shoes on, as the Barbie truck is seeing yet another reimagining— and the theme looks so fun!
Starting in February, Barbie fans will be able to shop the Barbie Truck Sports Club Tour! So far, the truck only has dates posted for California, but I imagine we’ll be seeing more events pop up throughout the United States very soon.
Merchandise sneak peeks have been popping up on Facebook recently and so far, I’m loving what I’m seeing! The hat above, for example, is adorable and this is coming from a girl that isn’t crazy about baseball caps. And the keychain with the mini canvas bag sitting on top of what looks to be a larger canvas bag? Love it! The theme opens itself up to so many things, so I’m excited to see the full list of items available for purchase. I’m hoping they have a cute Barbie themed baseball jersey to go with the hat.
For those who can’t visit the truck, good news! They do occasionally put some of the items from the truck on a special website. Currently, it has products from the original throwback bus all the way up to the Dreamhouse Living tour.
Follow the Barbie Truck Tour on Instagram or Facebook for updates on when they’ll be in a city near you. I’ll definitely be hitting it up when it comes to the Chicagoland area! Are you excited about the new Barbie Truck Tour? Let me know in the comments!
