Faith Based Dolls
It's almost Easter, so let's dive into some faith based doll brands!
With Easter upon us, I thought it would be nice to put together a post about faith based dolls. Being raised Roman Catholic, I generally know most about the dolls that fit that faith, so this is by no means a complete list. I invite you to share other faith based doll brands I missed in the comments.
I’ll start with the sad new that Dolls from Heaven is now closed. Tragically, the family owned business suffered a house fire, which decimated their belongings, as well as their inventory for both Dolls from Heaven and their other business, the Ultimate Decade Rosaries. Picking up the pieces and rebuilding their home is a task no one is ever prepared for, so it probably comes as no surprise that the family has no plans to re-open Dolls from Heaven.
I first covered these dolls back in 2017, because I loved the idea of an 18” doll that was themed around the Catholic faith. And eventually, I picked one up for my mom as a birthday gift. It’s a shame these dolls will no longer be in production. That being said, it doesn’t mean they’re gone forever and I imagine you’ll be able to find them on secondhand sites if you keep your eyes out.
On my initial search for current doll brands, I was a bit disappointed, actually. I found Faith Friends and Girls of Faith, which both make 18” dolls that are not terribly exciting compared to Dolls from Heaven. They look like your basic 18” doll.
Shining Light Dolls has some cute rag dolls based on saints, popes and others mentioned in the Bible or Catholic faith. They also sell plush dolls and wood dolls. I love rag doll Jesus’s hippy hairstyle.
A unique size, Fun in Faith dolls are just over 8 inches tall. Their cute faces were sculpted by Sonja Hartmann for this African doll brand. I can only find these dolls on one UK based website, so I have a feeling they’re an older release. Still cute, though!
Also worth noting is the long gone line Faith and Friends. They are 14” vinyl dolls from Mission City Press, who also made the 18” A Life In Faith doll range. You can see browse their catalog from 2005 here. I remember Faith and Friends, but don’t remember A Life Of Faith. In 2005, I was just out of high school, so I completely missed it. It’s a shame, as Violet looks cute!
There are, of course, other brands, that make dolls based on faith, but the ones above made it their sole purpose, which is why I wanted to highlight them. If you know of a faith based doll brand that I missed, share it in the comments!
