Come take a tour of my doll collection!

Before I was a doll collector, I was a doll fan. My mom, a doll collector herself, would always gift me dolls for birthdays and holidays. And while I did play with them, I learned from a very young age to keep them in good shape. Many of my childhood dolls were Barbie’s Little Sister, Skipper. Skipper was a big deal in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s and because she was similar in age to me, I loved them!

It’s because of that love of Skipper that when I was 16 and decided to officially collect dolls, I chose her to focus on. My thinking was that concentrating on one doll line would help streamline what I was looking for and maybe help me complete the collection to a greater extent than, say, if I collected every single Barbie doll ever sold.

For a few years, I did mostly collect Skipper, but as you might have guessed, I eventually deviated and now I have a collection that covers a huge variety of dolls from many makers that span decades. Bisque, composition and hard plastic beauties to 18”-24” dolls like American Girl to current day favorites like Monster High and Barbie Dream Besties, I’m really proud of my collection. I love all the pieces in it. None were bought for “investment value” or as a “retirement plan”. They were all picked up for one reason: because they called to me.

Some of my older dolls, including a large Dionne Quintuplet, a Tintair Honey, a Shirley Lookalike, bique Nipon era Hilda and a beautiful Arranbee.

There are some photo limitations here, so I’ll be sure to spotlight some of these dolls, plus the others in my collection not shown here, in their own posts. It will be fun showing each of these dolls a little love and sharing them and their stories with you.
